Ingredients

Apple Pie Filling:

  • Prepared gluten free pie crust

  • 6 cups peeled & sliced Granny Smith apples

  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup gluten free all purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger

  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • ⅛ teaspoon salt

Crumb Topping:

  • 1 cup gluten free all purpose flour

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup unsalted butter

Directions

  1. Prepare the apples:
Peel, core, and slice your apples (about 6 cups). Place in a bowl and coat with lemon juice to preserve freshness. Cover the bowl and set aside to rest.

  2. Make the apple mixture:
In a separate bowl, mix together the sugar, gluten-free flour, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt.
Pour this mixture over the apples and gently combine until the apples are evenly coated.

  3. Prepare the crumb topping:
In another bowl, combine the flour and brown sugar. Cut the butter into small pieces and, using a fork, incorporate the butter into the flour-sugar mix until it reaches a sandy consistency.

  4. Assemble the pie:
Fill the prepared pie crust with the apple mixture.
Spread the flour and brown sugar topping evenly over the top of the apples.

  5. Bake:
    Preheat oven to 400°F.
Place the pie in the center of the oven uncovered and bake for 30 minutes.
Then place a tinfoil cover loosely over the pie and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

  6. Cool:
Remove from the oven and let rest for approximately 2 hours.
